Salute to Kirkwood High School Class of 2008

Kirkwood High School held commencement exercises for the 2008 graduates on May 31 at Queeny Park. The KHS Class of 2008 includes 395 graduates and six foreign exchange students. In addition, 39 members of the KHS Class of 2008 were accepted in National Honor Society and 145 were recipients of the Gold K Award for achieving a 3.5 accumulative GPA or higher.
Derrick Staten was announced as class valedictorian for having achieved a grade point average (GPA) of 4.2454 on a 4.0 scale. Julie Kennedy, 4.2356 GPA, was announced as salutatorian.
Graduates who also earned GPAs of 4.0 or higher were announced at commencement. They include William Backus, Susanna Compton, Colleen Kelly, Mary Claire Elbring, Emily Koehler, Lena Benoit, Hannah Ayers, Jamie Fitzgerald, Amanda Prasuhn, Bryan Butler, Victoria Mitchell, Allison Kern, Tessa Robertson, Adam Farris, Anthony Timmerman, Matthew Berry, Brandon Mitchener, Matthew Rekart, Stephen Schleiffarth, Oleg Lepschin, Michael Moffat, Steven Kohner, Grant Pope, Sara Bliss, Sarah Brown, Kathryn Dorsey, John Killeen, Shannon Kelly, Alexander Glover, Maria Lauenstein, Melissa Rogers, Benjamin Speidel, Heather Vannoy and Erica Hunt.
Student commencement speakers included Katherine Ronecker and Colleen Kelly, KHS Student Council president and vice president respectively, and three students who were selected as speakers by their classmates: Maxwell Artis, Derrick Staten and Anthony Moore.
