Kirkwood Family Donates Plants as Their Children Grow Through the District

December 13, 2011

Jill and Dave Haring have had four children pass through the halls of Kirkwood School District (KSD) schools: Jeff (KHS ’04), Daniel (KHS ’07), Courtney (KHS ’11) and David who is a freshman at KHS.  Over the years, Haring children have attended Robinson Elementary, Nipher Middle, and Kirkwood High School.  Along each child’s journey, the Haring’s business, Sundown Landscaping, made generous donations to beautify campus landscaping, enable students to partake in outdoor learning opportunities, and give students space to relax in between classes.

When their oldest child Jeff was at Robinson Elementary, the Harings were instrumental to the development of the Robinson outdoor learning center.  The space has planting beds, fossil rocks and a sitting area.  During one class project, students planted lettuce leaf seeds, learned about the germination process, and later ate the lettuce. The learning center continues to be a favorite place for students and teachers alike on the Robinson campus.

When their children progressed to Nipher Middle School, the couple served on the landscaping committee and worked on campus beautification including removal of storm damaged trees and redesigned the landscaping around the marquee at the entrance to the school.

Now at Kirkwood High School (KHS), the Haring’s have partnered with the KHS Mothers Club to redesign the school entrances as well as a student seating area. The landscaping is around the digital marquee signs and includes a natural stone edge and new plantings.  The Mother’s Club donated the money for materials and Sundown Landscaping supplied the labor and landscape expertise.

The Haring’s are owners of Sundown Landscaping.  Dave was the 2010 Kirkwood Chamber of Commerce “Citizen of the Year” recipient.  He currently serves as Pioneer Booster Co-President as is always ready to lend a helping hand to the KSD.
