Varsity Gymnasium

Where am I?

The Varsity Gymnasium is the latest addition to the indoor athletic facilities at Kirkwood High School. Construction began in the summer of 2007, with the grand opening held on April 5, 2008. Funding for this facility was made possible through Proposition I, which was approved by Kirkwood community voters in April 2005.

Home to the boys and girls basketball, boys and girls volleyball, and wrestling teams, the Varsity Gymnasium is used as KHS’ main gym for athletic competition. In addition to athletics, it also serves as an educational site for physical education classes. With 1,750 seats, the Varsity Gym is the only facility at KHS large enough to host assemblies and events for the entire student body.

This site is equipped with six basketball hoops, parquet flooring, a concession stand, and retractable bleachers for fan seating. Two ColorSmart scoreboards, located on the north and south walls of the gym, will display player and team stats for basketball, volleyball, and wrestling. Undoubtedly the most exciting feature of the Varsity Gym is its 14 by 7 foot Daktronics video board. KHS students will be trained to operate the video board during athletic contests; displaying highlights, crowd reactions, and special messages.
