Where am I?

Located two miles south of the Kirkwood High School campus, the St. Louis Community College(STLCC)-Meramec aquatics center houses all practices, home meets, and games for boys swim and dive, girls swim and dive, and co-ed water polo.

Built in 1969, the STLCC-Meramec pool is 75 feet long, 42 feet wide, and supports six regulation size swimming lanes. It includes six starting blocks, one spring diving board, and two water polo goals. The facility is equipped with full men’s and women’s locker rooms with 30 total showers, and is in compliance with the American Disabilities Act. The center holds a maximum of 100 spectators, and is outfitted with a Nevco scoreboard and public announcement capabilities.

A major factor for constructing the facility was to fulfill KHS’ need for a home site for the boys swim & dive team. Before its construction, the KHS boys swim & dive team practiced at the Kirkwood YMCA, and all meets and tournaments were held at opposing schools.

STLCC-Meramec and Kirkwood High School agreed to terms, built the facility, and the first home meet in school history was held in 1970. KHS added girls swim & dive in the spring of 1975 and co-ed water polo in the fall of 1996.  Those two teams have always called the STLCC-Meramec pool home.
