GRAPHIC DESIGN STUDENTS PARTICIPATE IN A LIVE VIDEO CONFERENCE FOR HEC-TV

Graphic Design students participated in a live video conference on Tuesday, October 14, 2008 titled "Media Literacy: Advertising Then and Now." The conference was hosted by HEC-TV (cable television) and the Mildred Lane Kemper Art Museum on Washington University's Campus. It was a unique experience using live interactive video feed while staff from the Kemper Musuem facilitated questions and interaction with their current exhibit "Birth of the Cool: California Art Design, and Culture at Midcentury." Kirkwood students interacted live with curators from the Kemper Art Museum, two schools from Texas, and one school from Pennsylvania.
Not only were Graphic Design students able to participate in the video conference, but Kirkwood was chosen for an interview and taped for the HEC-TV's program "Behind the Minds" that will air in November with reruns. Nancy Pasturnack, a reporter, and her camera crew conducted interviews and took video of our Graphic Design class working on their poster projects before and during the conference. Students featured in the reporter's interview were Jay Frick, grade 10, and Tanya Foster, grade 11. The "Behind the Minds" cable television program will also be a part of "On Demand" programming and will be posted on the HEC-TV.org website.
The Kemper Museum's "Birth of Cool" exhibit is free to the public and located on the campus of Washington University from September 19, 2008 thru January 5, 2009. More information and hours of operation can be found at kemperartmuseum.wustl.edu (posted 10/17/08).
