ART ANNOUNCEMENTS
- Youth Summer Employment Opportunity! >This just in: "Youth summer
employment training opportunities in the arts with St. Louis ArtWorks
for 14 to 19 year old high school students(Must be 14 years of age no
later than January 1, 2010).
St. Louis ArtWorks is a non-profit organization that hires high school age youth to learn a
wide array of art skills and employment training in fields such as
photography, print-making, dance, sculpture, videography, and ceramics.
The summer program is 6 weeks long. Youth typically work Monday
through Friday from 10 am to 3:30. Our summer program schedule
conflicts with summer school schedules. Please advise youth that they
will have to commit to the work schedule if they are selected. The
youth are paid to be trained in a specific art discipline and produce
works of art that will be displayed and/or sold. The youth are groomed
daily towards professionalism and encouraged to assume a higher role in
responsibility. Upon exiting the youth are provided with a working
resume, letter of recommendation, and an art portfolio to utilize for
future employment and education opportunities.
Our program is a safe and stimulating environment for youth to work in the arts and towards multiples successes. Last year we employed over 90 youth in five areas of art. We are currently accepting on-line applications for summer employment. Please go to www.stlartworks.org, click programs, and select apply. Feel free to call me for more information. - Full Sail University, of Winter Park FL, will be visiting the Art Department on Thursday, February 18 2nd period (7:50-8:45) and 4th period (10:00-11:00) in SA-4. Any students interested in entertainment media, technology, gaming, or graphics should see Mrs. Foster for a pass, by Weds. 2/17/10 (posted 2/12/10).
Pennies for Pumpkins--The Kirkwood Chapter of the National Art Honor Society (NAHS) is pleased to promote our first event: Pennies for Pumpkins!
Staff and students are invited to bring money (pennies, nickles, quarters, dollar bills, etc) and vote for your favorite pumpkin during lunch on Thursday, October the 29th! Which ever pumpkin has the most money in the jar at the end of second lunch wins! In addition, if you want to take one of the pumpkins home, a silent auction will be going on during Parent Teacher Conferences, meaning the highest bidder gets to take the pumpkin home!
Wednesday after school NAHS will be carving pumpkins. Any member (new or old) is welcome to come and help out. Pumpkins will not be provided. All money will go to the National Art honor Society for Art supplies (posted 10/26/09).- We now have a National Art Honor Society! Art students
are invited to be apart of the Kirkwood Chapter of National Art Honor
Society, sponsored by the National Art Education Association. For more

- Meramec College's Art Portfolio Review at
STLCC-Meramec will be Wednesday, October 21, 2009 in the Humanities
East and West Buildings. This event provides high school art
students and current STLCC art students a focused approach to beginning
or continuing their art education, as well as the opportunity to meet
with STLCC art faculty and representatives from visiting art schools
and programs to get advice about portfolio preparation. High School Student Session is 3-6 p.m.
• Students should bring a current portfolio and questions for art school reps
• Learn about admission criteria and scholarship opportunities
• Get advice about portfolio preparation
This session is open to all students, regardless of college choice.

- National Art Honor Society's (NAHS) FIRST MEETING Have
you completed at least one semester of art courses and are currently
enrolled in art now? Do you have a B average in your art classes? Want to be apart of a national organization just for art students? Then you are eligible to join KHS 's first NAHS meeting on October 5, 2009 in Room SA-1 after school, 2:50pm-3:50pm. Bring your $3.00 dues, cash or check made out to the National Art Honor Society.
The National Art Honor Society is an organization committed to
spreading art through out the community and focuses its efforts in
various service activities. Admittance into this group requires not
only an avid interest in art, but also dedication and a sense of the
purpose of the artist in society. We are offering you a chance to
utilize your talents to make this world a better place, and to expand
your horizons as an artist and as a person (posted 9/23/09).
- A new Art Scholarship web page has been added to the Art Department website. We know how expensive post-high school education can be. So we want you to visit our new web page dedicated to providing you with various Art Scholarship opportunities. Visit this new page at (posted 9/29/09).
- Savannah College of Art & Design (SCAD) will be coming to speak to art students on Weds. 9/2/09. 1st period will be in Mrs. Foster's room SA-4 (7:50am-8:45am) & 3rd period will be in Mrs. Grimes room SA-1. Any students interested in an art career or SCAD, should get a pass from either Mrs. Foster or Mrs. Grimes one day prior (posted 8/27/09).
- Memphis
College of Art & Design (MCAD) will be coming to speak to art
students on Thurs. 9/10/09 during 5th hour (11am-12pm) in Mrs. Foster's
room SA-4. Any students interested in an art career or MCAD, should
get a pass from Mrs. Foster one day prior (posted 8/27/09).
- Graphics Mac Lab is open for Art Students during Academic Homeroom Any art student who wishes to use the Macintosh computers during Academic Homeroom on Wednesdays are welcome with a signed red card pass from their Homeroom teacher. This is an excellent opportunity for students to use specialty software available only in the Graphics Mac Lab (room SA-5) such as Photoshop CS4, Illustrator CS4, InDesign CS4, Storyboard, Flash, and GarageBand.
