ART ANNOUNCEMENTS FROM 2008-2009


  • St. Louis Community College at Meramec is hosting “The Arts at Meramec” Night on Thursday, March 5. From 6-8pm, they will open our doors to prospective college students, their families, and the community to visit our art, music and theater departments. Participants will have the opportunity to hear about our programs and visit our labs and classrooms, as well as meet with faculty and staff from the specific areas mentioned.   • AP ART STUDIO'S "HALF WAY THERE" SHOW The AP Art Studio class is having a "Half Way There" showing in SA-1 on Friday, 2/27 during 5th hour. Please stop by and show this class your support (posted 2/24/09).

  • DOODLE FOR GOOGLE ART CONTEST Submit your entry for the 2009 Doodle for Google "What I Wish for the World" to your art teacher by Monday, March 16, 2009 3pm. KHS can only submit 6 entries, so check out the requirements and download your forms now!

  • SAVANNAH COLLEGE OF ART & DESIGN IS COMING TO VISIT ART STUDENTS ON WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 18, 2009 DURING 7th HOUR. A representative will be speaking to art students on Wednesday, February 18 during 7th hour in Room SA-2. ANY art student interested in this presentation should sign up with Mrs. Benben at least one day prior (posted 1/20/09).

  • ROBERT MORRIS COLLEGE OF ART AND DESIGN IS COMING ON FRIDAY, JANUARY 30, 2009 A representative will be speaking to art students on Friday, January 30 during 1st hour, 2nd hour, and 4th hour on "Careers in the Art Field" in Room SA-4. The representative will also be discussing how to apply for financial aid through FAFSA and other means of obtaining art scholarship money. ANY art student interested in this presentation should sign up with Mrs. Foster at least one day prior (posted 1/20/09).


  • SCULPTURE STUDENTS MEET BEST OF MISSOURI HAND ARTISTS Best of Missouri Hands (BOMH) Juried Artists will be in town for the St. Louis Artists Guild's "ARTstravaganza! 2008" October 24-26, 2008. Before the artists set up for their own shows, two BOMH artists will visit the classroom of art students at Kirkwood High School. Dodie Eisenhauer, Wire/Mesh Sculptor from Daisy, MO and Nancy Clark, Hand Weaver from Kansas City, MO will bring in samples of their art to Mrs. Nancy Grimes' sculpture students in class on October 23rd. Students will have the opportunity to watch the artists demonstrate techniques for their media and ask questions during the demonstration. Not only will students be able to watch the artists at work, but also listen to the artists about why they create their work, what inspires the artists, and how to pursue a career as a sculptor. Funding for this unique opportunity is being provided by a grant from the Regional Arts Commission (posted 10/18/08).

NATIONAL PORTFOLIO DAY IS ALMOST HERE!! Any art student, especially Juniors and Seniors, should take advantage of the National Portfolio Day being offered at Washington University on Sunday, October 19, 2008. Have your work reviewed by over 30 art schools, art institutes, and colleges. Art College representatives will give you personal reviews on your work and insight you will need for admission and merit scholarships. National Portfolio Day is open to the public on Sunday, October 19, 2008, from 1pm - 5pm in Bixby Hall, School of Art on Washington University's campus, Forsyth at Skinker. Memphis College of Art & Design is coming to visit with students on Monday, September 29, 2008 during 5th hour. Any student who wishes to see MCAD's college presentation should see their art teacher for a pass by Sept. 26. Space is limited, first come, first served! http://www.mca.edu/

Graphics Mac Lab is open for Art Students during Academic Homeroom Any art student who wishes to use the Macintosh computers during Academic Homeroom on Wednesdays are welcome with a signed red card pass from their Homeroom teacher. This is an excellent opportunity for students to use specialty software available only in the Graphics Mac Lab (room SA-5) such as Photoshop CS2, Illustrator CS2, InDesign CS2, Storyboard, Flash, and GarageBand.

Mrs. Foster offers After School Art Lab Every Wednesday Students in Mrs. Foster's classes who need extra time to work on projects may come to room SA-4 every Wednesday from 2:45pm-3:45pm. This privilege is open only to students who have permission by Mrs. Foster. Students who do not use their time wisely in class are not eligible for this special opportunity.
