Community Science Seminars Exploring Today’s Science, Inspiring Tomorrow’s Scientists
-- a Public Science Seminar Series partnership of the Kirkwood School District and The Academy of Science - St. Louis
NEXT SEMINAR DATE: Thursday, March 4, 2010; 7 - 8:30PM--Diversity in Science Panel Discussion
This Thursday's Speaker event on Diversity in Science starts at 7 pm in the Keating Theater at Kirkwood High School.
A diverse group of speakers from Boeing, Pfizer,the Washington University School of Medicine, and the Donald Danforth PlantSciences Center will speak on:
New medicines from state-of-the-art pharmaceutical research.
Pharmaceutical science career ops and educational paths.
Preventing fatal bleeding from injuries.
Women in science leadership roles and today’s changing climate for women in science and engineering.
Modern plant biotechnology for the next 50 years and solving our most urgent problems--increasing populations, a warming atmosphere, depleting natural resources.
A question and answer session will follow the presentations.
The Academy of Science and Kirkwood School District do not endorse any company, institution, or individual, but present science speakers, community-wide public seminars, talks and panel discussions, to increase awareness and understanding of science and its powerful role in our public and private lives.
OPEN TO THE PUBLIC: Middle and high school students, teachers, adults, and the general public are invited to attend.
NO COST: No-cost seminars and panel discussions feature high-level scientists and industry professionals on how science tackles current issues and societal concerns, with advice for students interested in pursuing science careers.
STUDENT OPPORTUNITIES TO COMPETE FOR COLLEGE SCHOLARSHIPS: One $250 Middle School Student Scholarship and one $250 High School Student Scholarship Attend 3 - 5 seminars or panel discussions and write about your experience. Scholarship decisions announced in May 2010.
