2009 High School ESY Information

What is ESY?

ESY or Extended School Year is a six week summer program offered by the Kirkwood School District to allow high school students to recover credit for a course failed during the regular school year.

What is the ESY 2009 schedule? Monday, June 8 - Friday, July 10th No Classes on Friday, July 3rd

Credit Recovery Classes (see list below)

Class Time: 7:45 A.M. – 11:45 A.M.

Bus service is available

Session 1 is June 8 – June 23 (12 days)

Session 2 is June 24– July 10 (12 days)

Credit Enhancement Classes (see list below)

Bus service is NOT available

Classes meet from June 8 – July 10 (24 days)

Session A is 7:30am – 10:00pm

Session B is 10:15am – 12:45pm

Where is ESY being held?

ESY is held at Kirkwood High School, 801 West Essex. Who may participate in ESY?

Students who have failed a core course during the regular school year and need to recover credit. Students wanting to take a credit enhancement course such as PE/Health/Personal Finance may also enroll. All enrollment is on a first come/first serve basis.

What classes are offered in ESY?

CREDIT RECOVERY

Freshman & Sophomore Literature and Composition

Junior English (TBA)

Algebra I & Geometry

Civics, World History I, World History II, World History III

Freshman Physics, Chemistry, Biology (if needed)

CREDIT ENHANCEMENT

PE, Health, & Personal Finance

*A student may NOT take both a credit recovery course and a credit enhancement course.

Should my child be enrolled?

You will receive information from a KHS guidance counselor if your child should be enrolled in ESY at the beginning of April.

Health, PE, and Personal Finance enrollment forms will be available March 2nd online or at the KHS guidance office.

Is bus transportation provided?

Yes, if your student lives two miles or more from Kirkwood High School and is enrolled in a credit recovery course.

Bus transportation is NOT provided for Health, PE or Personal Finance Students.
