Where am I?
Cadet Teaching/High School
Grade: 10, 11, 12 - 1/4 Elective Credit - Length: 1 Semester
Prerequisite: Successfully completed the course with a B or above.
Signature of instructor required.
This class cannot be taken concurrently with any other cadet teaching position, office assistant position or independent classes. A student may apply no more than 1/2 credit (two semesters) of Cadet Teaching to meet graduation requriements.
The content of this course depends upon the choice of disciplines. A student may apply to work in any course providing the student has already successfully completed the course (See Prerequisite). Students will assist the teacher in class, occasionally lead class discussions, work with small groups, or do routine tasks normally expected of a teacher.
Office Assistant
Grade: 10, 11, 12 - 1/4 Elective Credit - Length: 1 Semester
Prerequisite: Signature of Counselor and Office Staff
This position cannot be taken concurrenlty with any other cadet teaching or independent class.
Students assist office personnel in delivering messages, filing, answering the phone, and other business tasks. Students are trained in daily office procedures. Students use their time to study when their services are not needed. A student may apply no more than 1/2 credit (two semesters) of Office Assistant to meet graduation requirements.
GR9 Academic Support (Optional)
Grade: 9 - No Credit - Length: 1 Year
Transition to high school can be difficult for some ninth grade students due to a heavier academic work load and adjustment to a new social setting. The GR9 Academic Support period is a structured study block for only ninth graders and is supervised by a ninth grade English, Social Studies, Science or World Languages teacher. Students receive additional guidance and support as they begin their high school adjustment period. Ninth grade students may take this in lieu of a seventh course. No credit is given for GR9 Academic Support.
Study Block
Grade: 10, 11, 12 - No Credit - Length: 1 Semester
Students have the option of choosing a study block to receive tutoring, complete homework, or do additional research. Study block is recommended for students who struggle academically and/or need school time to visit labs or meet with teachers.
Study Focus
Grade: 10, 11, 12 - 1/4 Elective Credit with Pass/Fail - Length: 1 Semester
Study focus is a monitored study block designed for students needing additional support. Students are coached in many areas, including time management, study skills, and the use of additional school resources. In addition, students set individual academic goals, receive continual teacher feedback and learn strategies for navigating through high school.
MoVIP
MoVIP is a K-12 online program offering courses for students statewide. Students can take an entire course from any internet-connected computer, available 24 hours a day. MoVIP enables all schools to offer students equal access to a wider range of coursework and more flexible in scheduling. MoVIP is not a school and does not offer a complete high school diploma program online. The credit earned by a MoVIP course will be entered in the Kirkwood transcript. Technical Schools
Grades 10,11 & 12 students may enroll in one of three technical schools in St. Louis County - West Counry Tech, North County Tech, and South County Tech - in cooperation with Kirkwood High School on a half-day basis. Some may choose to enroll full time. Students may apply for acceptance with one of these schools for a morning or afternoon session and specialize in a specific career skill. The core curricular subjects are then taken at kirkwood High School for the balance of the day. The credit earned at Tech School will be entered in the Kirkwood transcript.
