Advanced Art (5105)
Grade: 11, 12 - 1/2 Fine Art Credit - Length: 1 Semester
Prerequisite: Art Fundamentals, Drawing I

Students will develop a portfolio of their own work, acquire career and school information, and stimulate individual creative expression. Students will further develop skills, techniques, and ideas learned in previous courses. Students will do drawing and painting projects with the whole class and select specific media and techniques for personal exploration.

AP Studio Art (5100S1/5100S2)
Grade: 11, 12 - 1 Fine Art Credit - Length: 1 Year
Prerequisite: Three Previous Art Courses

This course requires summer work. Any student enrolling in this course should pick up the summer work instructions from Ms. Grimes.

Students will submit a portfolio of their work to the AP College Board exam readers for evaluation. The AP program is based on the premise that college level material can be taught to secondary school students. Four portfolios are offered: 2-D design, drawing, painting and 3-D design.

Art Fundamentals (5001)
Grade: 9, 10, 11, 12 - 1/2 Fine Art Credit - Length: 1 Semester

Students will learn the language of art and explore various techniques and media. Art skills will be developed through a variety of class assignments. Students will observe works of Art from chosen time periods and movements. This course is a prerequisite for all other art courses.

Ceramics I (5015)
Grade: 9, 10, 11, 12 - 1/2 Fine Art Credit - Length: 1 Semester
Prerequisite: Art Fundamentals

Students will design and construct hand-built pottery using pinch, coil and slab methods of construction. They will use glazing and other decorating techniques to complete successful designs in clay.

Ceramics II (5025)
Grade: 10, 11, 12 - 1/2 Fine Art Credit - Length: 1 Semester
Prerequisite: Art Fundamentals, Ceramics I

Students will develop the skills and techniques of wheel-thrown pottery. Students will further develop the skills and techniques of hand-built pottery, glazing, and decorating which were introduced in Ceramics I. This course is recommended for students planning to take AP Studio Art 3-D.

Drawing I (5055)
Grade: 9, 10, 11, 12 - 1/2 Fine Art Credit - Length: 1 Semester
Prerequisite: Art Fundamentals

Students will acquire skills in drawing through guided daily practice. Students will work from observation in media such as pencil, charcoal, color pencil and pen and ink.

Drawing II (5065)
Grade: 10, 11, 12 - 1/2 Fine Art Credit - Length: 1 Semester
Prerequisite: Art Fundamentals, Drawing I

Students will expand skills learned in Drawing I with more intensive study of composition and the use of additional media and techniques. Students will work from observation and imagination. Students will develop an intensive approach for interpretation of subject matter. Students will learn skills and techniques with the following media: pencil, color pencil, pastel, pen and ink, charcoal and mixed media. This course is recommended for students planning to take AP Studio Art.

Graphic Design I (5016)
Grade: 9, 10, 11, 12 - 1/2 Fine Art Credit - Length: 1 Semester
Prerequisite: Art Fundamentals

Students will learn the basic concepts for effective advertising layout and design. Drawing and painting techniques will be done by hand, but most assignments will be completed in the Art Mac Lab using the scanner, digital photography, and various Adobe programs.

Graphic Design II (5026)
Grade: 10, 11, 12 - 1/2 Fine Art Credit - Length: 1 Semester
Prerequisite: Art Fundamentals, Graphic Design I

Students will study advertising design in greater depth through intensive use of Macintosh computers in the Art Lab. Digital photography, scanned images, imovie and 3-D programs are incorporated for your portfolio. This course is recommended for students planning to take AP Studio Art 2-D.

Painting (5085)
Grade: 10, 11, 12 - 1/2 Fine Art Credit - Length: 1 Semester
Prerequisite: Art Fundamentals, Drawing I

Students will learn the techniques and methods of painting with watercolor and acrylic paint. Students will work in realistic and abstract styles using various subjects. Applying the elements and principles of art and the knowledge of color theory, students will communicate their ideas visually.

Sculpture I (5095)
Grade: 10, 11, 12 - 1/2 Fine Art Credit - Length: 1 Semester
Prerequisite: Art Fundamentals and Drawing I or Instructor’s Signature

Students will design and make large and small three-dimensional works in a variety of materials including cardboard/paper, wood, wire, plaster, fibers, stone and found objects. Students will demonstrate basic skills in design and construction.

Sculpture II (5096)
Grade: 10,11, 12 - 1/2 Fine Art Credit - Length: 1 Semester
Prerequisite: Sculpture I

Building on the skills and understanding of the four basic sculpture processes (casting, carving, modeling, and assemblage) developed in Sculpture I, students will explore media with greater sophistication and projects will be larger and more challenging. This course is recommended for students planning to take AP Studio Art 3-D.
