Accounting 1 (6016S1/6016S2)
Grade: 10, 11 & 12 - 1 Practical Art Credit - Length: 1 Year
Accounting 1 introduces students to the core components of double-entry accounting through financial accounting. Students will learn the accounting cycle for sole proprietors and corporations with an emphasis on evaluating financial information from an investing and managerial perspective. Students completing accounting 1 will be equipped with skills needed to analyze economic decisions in an ethical manner across any industry or profession.

Accounting 2 (6017)
Grade: 11 & 12 - 1/2 Practical Art Credit - Length: 1 Semester
Accounting 2 focuses on taxation in America. Students will work to complete Federal Income Tax Returns by studying the intricacies of current tax law. Students will look at the basics of business tax (partnership, LLC, C-Corp, and S-Corp). In addition, Students will analyze the federal tax system and seek tax solutions to the nations current fiscal issues.

Accounting 3 (6018)
Grade: 11 & 12 - 1/2 Practical Art Credit - Length: 1 Semester
Accounting 3 walks students through the process of creating and running a business on Quickbooks. Students will be responsible for filing the appropriate forms to create an LLC in Missouri and complete a year of transactions for the business.
AP Computer Science (7520S1/7520S2)
Grade: 11 & 12 - 1 Practical Art Credit - Length: 1 Year
Prerequisite: Algebra II (recommended grade of B or better) and Computer Programming II (recommended grade of B or better) and signature of teacher.
The Advanced Placement Computer Science course is designed to prepare students to take the College BoardÕs Advanced Placement Computer Science A test. Course content will allow students to develop an understanding of and practice of object-oriented program design, proper program implementation, program analysis, standard data structures and algorithms within the JAVA environment. The first three quarters is an intensive study of the JAVA language. The fourth quarter is spent studying for the AP exam. This course will demand lab time outside of regular class time.

Business Exploration (6006)
Grade: 9 & 10 - 1/2 Practical Art Credit - Length: 1 Semester
Discover the world of business through the use of technology while exploring key topics in the areas of entrepreneurship, marketing, communications, finance, law, and web page design. Studying each of these topics allows you to examine interests you have now so you can be on the right path for future coursework and career exploration! Class time is devoted to a mixture of creative group projects, current events, guest speakers, and exciting daily lessons. This project based class is held in a top-of-the-line computer lab which will be used daily for activities.

Explore the world of technology. An essential introductory course for all students to be successful in the modern world of technology. In this course students will obtain the computer skills required to be successful in high school, college, and beyond. Students will learn the necessary skill of keyboarding; as well as the features of Microsoft Windows, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Prerequisite: Computer Applications I
Uncover the fast-paced environment of desktop publishing. Design a useable portfolio for a business of your choice highlighting your skills in Word, Excel, Access, and Publisher. This project-based course allows students to create postcards, brochures, pamphlets, CD covers, business cards, magazine covers and more. Start designing your company today.

Computer Programming I: Learn to Create Computer Games (7507)
Grade: 9, 10, 11 & 12 - 1/2 Practical Art Credit - Length: 1 Semester
Prerequisite: Full credit earned in Algebra I; Computer Applications I is recommended.
When you play a computer game, you are using a program. When you create documents and spreadsheets, you are using a program. This course provides an introduction to structured programming using the BASIC. The emphasis will be on problem solving and logical thinking. These skills will enhance your performance in math and science as well as computer programming. By taking this course you may become the CREATOR of programs that you are merely using today. The final project of this course will be to plan, design, and write your own computer game.
Computer Programming II (7506)
Grade: 9, 10, 11 & 12 - 1/2 Practical Art Credit - Length: 1 Semester
Prerequisite: Computer Programming I or signature of teacher
In this course you will build on your BASIC skills by using VISUAL BASIC to create object-oriented applications that can be used to solve the problems that programmers face today. Students will then be introduced to the JAVA language to prepare them for AP Computer Science. This course is required in order to take AP Computer Science.
Introduction to Law: Know Your Rights! (6007)
Grade: 10, 11 & 12 - 1/2 Practical Art Credit - Length: 1 Semester
Do you know what your rights are and how to keep them? The basic principles on which our laws are based will be discussed. Criminal and civil law are introduced including: ethics, felonies, misdemeanors, jury selection, trial procedures, torts, and more. Laws governing minors at home, at school, on the job and in everyday life are also discussed. The legal knowledge you will gain in this course will make you not only a more powerful citizen but also a more successful student. Students will have the opportunity to take a field trip to the Clayton Court House to watch our legal system in action!
Personal Finance (6325)

Take charge of your finances! This course allows students to explore a variety of topics designed to help them meet the challenges of life after high school. The curriculum includes principles and techniques for handling personal financial decisions: personal budgeting, obtaining credit, insurance, renting an apartment, buying a car, savings and investments, and more.
Web Page Design (7508)
Grade: 9, 10, 11 & 12 - 1/2 Practical Art Credit - Length: 1 Semester
Web Page Design introduces students to the fundamentals of producing web based products through emerging technologies. Students will use a web 2.0 tool, build a blog, and develop a web site using HTML to raise awareness about a topic of their choice. The culmination of studentsÕ work will result in a comprehensive web based product covering multiple technologies used by web design professionals. Students will also learn a variety of design concepts focusing on best practices in building usable websites.
Marketing Education
Introduction to Marketing: How To Market Anything! (6825)
Grade: 10, 11 & 12 - 1/2 Practical Art Credit - Length: 1 Semester
Explore the strategies and tactics used by the worldÕs most successful companies. Class time blends creative group projects, guest speakers, and in-depth analysis of innovative (as well as disastrous) marketing initiatives from well-known businesses. Learn and apply basic concepts of marketing and characteristics of free enterprise, including promotional strategies, branding and advertising, entrepreneurship, market research, professional development, and business ethics. Classroom resources include wireless laptops, digital cameras, and video cameras. DECA membership offers additional co-curricular opportunities to participate in marketing-related activities, travel, and competitions. Intro to Marketing is a prerequisite for Sports and Entertainment Marketing and Advertising and Promotions.

Interested in starting your own business? Advanced Marketing is the class for you! Receive 3 hours of college credit and learn the ins and outs of starting your own business. Take what you learned in Intro and apply it in the “Real World” partnering with Kirkwood School District and local businesses to help them effectively reach their target markets. We will also be utilizing “The Apprentice” TV show concept in the classroom to find out who will be the next Kirkwood Apprentice. Will it be you?

Advanced Marketing: Sports and Entertainment (6823)

Prerequisite: Introduction to Marketing (C or better).
St. Louis, Missouri was voted the BEST SPORTS CITY in America! The fastest growing field in marketing today is the business of sports and entertainment marketing. This course covers the topics of professional sports, college and amateur sports, and the entertainment industry. Experts from a variety of sports and entertainment businesses from St. Louis will share their success stories as guest speakers. Students will have the opportunity to visit several outstanding businesses in St. Louis to see first hand how they operate, such as the River City Rascals, UMB Pavillion or the St. Louis Cardinals.

Marketing Internship (6824S1/6824S2)
Grade: 11 & 12 - 1/2 Practical Art Credit - Length: 1 Semester
Do you want to earn $$ and earn credit? The Marketing Internship combines real-life work experience and marketing concepts. Students may keep a current job or obtain paid employment in a marketing related occupation (restaurant, retail, banking, etc.) They are released from school during 7th period and must work at least 10 hours per week. Students must be concurrently enrolled in Intro to Marketing, Sports and Entertainment, or Advertising & Promotion to be eligible to sign up for this class.
