Schedule Change
Where am I?
Much time and effort has gone into developing student schedules from the requested and alternate courses, and we want students to be responsible for the decisions they make about the courses they request. Once students receive their schedules in the summer, schedule changes will only be permitted for the following reasons:
•The student has an incomplete schedule.
•The student is misplaced. For example, the class is above/below the student’s comprehension level as per the teacher, or the student did not complete the necessary prerequisites for the class.
•The student has already taken the class and passed it.
•The student had the teacher previously and was not successful.
•The student had the teacher previously and there is a documented behavior conflict.
What about DROPPING a class?
You can drop a class up until 5 school days after each semester begins. After that time, it may result in you receiving an “F” for the semester, and you may be assigned a mandatory study block (no IP) for the remainder of the semester.
Should I Retake a class?
You can retake a course to improve your understanding and for a change of grade. The grade you earn the second time around (higher OR lower) replaces your original grade. If you failed it the first time, you will get credit if you pass the second time, otherwise no additional credit will be given. You can’t take a course that is a prerequisite for a class you have already passed so check it out in the course selection book before you make a decision.
What is Audit? Should I do it?
Audit means to take a class for no credit. You may do it to improve your learning and understanding in a specific subject. You will be expected to do all the course work, including exams. You must have teacher approval and request to audit before the 6th day into the 1st or 3rd quarter. The exception to this rule is for medical reasons.
Can I take a class for Pass/Fail grade?
There are very specific situations where pass/fail is an option. See your guidance counselor to find out if you qualify. Some examples are: transfer students coming in the middle of a semester; you have extensive absences due to illness; your classes have been modified in some way. You can NOT take a pass/fail grade to “pad” your GPA or if think the work will be easier. The deadline to request a pass/fail grade is 6 days into the 1st and 3rd quarter unless you have a medical reason with verification from a doctor.
Do I get IP (Independent Program)?
If you are a Sophomore, Junior or Senior and have a GPA of 3.2 or above you may have IP instead of a study block (only one each semester-no matter how many study blocks you have). IP allows you to work in the Library, CafeĢ hallway, Commons, or outside. (NOT off campus or in the parking lots) IP is recalculated every quarter based on 1st, 3rd quarter and 1st, 2nd semester grades.
