Where am I?

Guidance Curriculum

Guidance Curriculum

My Philosophy:
  • The school counseling program is both pro-active and responsive
  • The counseling program is used to assist students in learning about who they are and give them the necessary tools and skills to deal with different situations they may face to be successful in school and in their lives.
  • The counseling curriculum consists of developmentally appropriate lessons to provide students with the knowledge and skills appropriate for their developmental level.
  • The counseling program is comprehensive as it collaborates with the efforts to benefit the students, parents, teachers, administrators, and the community as a whole.
  • The counseling program is based on the Missouri Comprehensive Guidance Model, which is designed to encourage all students' academic achievement, career planning, and personal/social development and helping all students maximize their achievement.
  •  Services are provided in 4 major areas:
  1. Guidance Curriculum (45-50%): developmentally appropriate activities conducted with all students at each grade level.
  2. Responsive Services (20-30%): brief personal counseling, crisis intervention, and special support groups and programs particular to students' needs.
  3. System Support (10-15%): organization and facilitation of school-wide programs (i.e. MAP testing, school-wide benchmarking, ASSIST process)
  4. Individual Planning (5-15%): application of acquired competencies to each student's academic planning and ASSIST plans.
