Westchester Families,

Welcome to the 2011-2012 school year!  My name is Ms. Courtney Wilson, and I am the school counselor at Westchester Elementary.  I want to introduce myself to your family, and explain how I am here to assist you and our school.  I graduated with my Master's degree in school counseling from the University of Missouri, St. Louis. I worked as an elementary counselor intern at Bristol Elementary, in the Webster Groves School District.  Prior to that, I was an elementary teacher in the Parkway School District. I was also a preschool teacher in Columbia, Missouri for several years during my undergraduate studies. My undergraduate degree is from MIZZOU and it was in Elementary Education. I am from St. Louis and I currently reside in Richmond Heights. I live with my cat Bryson who I love very much. I have three older brothers and five nieces and nephews who also all live in St. Louis. I am currently working on my PhD. in Counseling from the University of Missouri-St. Louis.

My goal this year is to work collaboratively with the entire Westchester community to help our students be successful, both academically and socially. I plan to focus on the developmental learning behaviors, tasks, skills, and experiences that are necessary for our students to be successful in school and in their daily lives. I plan to visit every classroom at least once a month to teach guidance lessons. I will send home a note with your child describing what we did during the lesson and how you can add to it at home. I will present a curriculum that consists of developmentally appropriate lessons to provide students with the knowledge and skills needed to be successful community members. The purpose of these lessons is to encourage all students' academic achievement, career planning, and personal/social development to help all students maximize their achievement. In addition to whole group lessons, I will also have small groups and individual, short-term counseling sessions. In addition to my role as guidance counselor, I will also serve as the leader of our building level ASSIST (Achieving Success through Supports & Interventions for Students & Teachers) Problem Solving Team.

Please contact me or stop by my office if you have concerns about your child or information you may want to share about your family.  My office is located off of the main office.  I am very excited to be a part of the Westchester community and look forward to serving your children and family this year.

Sincerely,

Courtney Wilson
