Science	Plants	Students research and then plant a community garden
Science	Plants	Students plant a vegetable garden, then donate produce to a food pantry
Science	Weather: water	Students complete a water study of an area creek, pond, etc. and then find out how to help from the parks dept.
Social Studies	Ancient cultures	Students study the ancient cultures and then create an ethnic garden on the school grounds
Social Studies	Economics	Students have a fundraiser for another service learning project but tie it into economics as well (money management, budgeting, etc.)
Math	Fractions, measurement	Students bake cookies for the firemen at a Kirkwood or Glendale Fire Station
Communication Arts	Writing skills	Students become pen pals with the elderly in a nursing home
Communication Arts	Letter writing skills	Students research an issue they feel strongly about. They then write a letter to the President expressing their concerns.
Reading	Understand the levels of books (choosing appropriate text)	Students collect books for a children's home or area emergency room (involves finding out what age children are there and what appropriate levels of text should be put there)
Technology	Appropriate use of technology	Students teach others (elderly?) how to use the Internet, e-mail, etc. in a free session at the new Hough Learning Center
