Reflection Ideas for Aging/Elderly

The following is a list of questions to use with your students during reflection.  The first list can be used before the service-learning project to spark a discussion on perceptions of the elderly.  The second list is a follow-up to the first, intended to be given to the children after your project is complete.

PRE-SURVEY

1.What do you think are the greatest needs of senior citizens?

2. What do you think students can do to meet these needs?

3. Do you enjoy the company of older people?  Why or why not?

4. Do you think that many older people are set in their ways?  Why or why not?

5. Describe some of the reasons for the sense of alienation felt by many of the elderly in our society.

6. What contributions do you hope to make when you become elderly?

7. What problems do you anticipate in carrying out your service project?

 

POST-SURVEY

1.What do you think are the greatest needs of senior citizens?

2. What do you think students can do to meet these needs?

3. Do you enjoy the company of older people?  Why or why not?

4. Do you think that many older people are set in their ways?  Why or why not?

5. What is the most significant thing you learned during this project?

6. Were there any surprises for you during this project?
