Animal Protection Service-Learning Project Ideas
Shelter - Students research and locate a shelter in their area that needs assistance. They bring in a speaker from the shelter so that they can understand how that shelter helps animals and what help they need from the children. The students then take up a collection of supplies or raise money to help the shelter.
Advocacy - Students research laws that protect animals and decide what else is needed. They then write letters to local, state or U.S. officials.
Education - Students research an area of animal protection that interests them (i.e. animal abuse, hunting, habitat loss, etc.). They then come up with a presentation to teach others about this problem.
Habitat Clean-Up - Students find a park in need of clean-up. They research what the pollution might be doing to harm the wildlife there. The students then come up with a plan to help these animals.
Vest for Police Dog - Students solicit donations to buy bulletproof vests for police K-9's in the community.
