Hearts for Haiti
Hearts for Haiti at Tillman
Tillman’s 4th grade classes sell heart-o-grams each year around Valentine’s Day. This year they transformed the event into Hearts for Haiti with all proceeds going to the Red Cross Haiti Relief. Students decided to make this shift after reading about the Haiti earthquake in “Time for Kids” and also the local newspaper. Students printed and cut out valentine hearts, advertised on the morning announcements, and had parents and students sell them before school for 25¢ each. They could be sent to anyone, staff or students, at Tillman. After the sale, the fourth graders also sorted and delivered the heart-o-grams. They earned $300 that was sent to the Red Cross earmarked for the Haitian Relief.
