Counseling Center Frequently Asked Questions
Who should see the counselor?
All students! It is our goal to get to know every child, his/her strengths and interests, and who each child is as a person. We want ALL kids to visit the Counseling Center.
Is my child in trouble? Is something wrong with him/her?
Two of the biggest myths about the Counseling Center are students thinking they are "in trouble" if they come to visit or others think something must be "wrong." This is not true. Kids come and talk about their accomplishments, goals and how things are going.
When should I contact the counselor about my child?
We welcome your phone calls and emails at anytime. Getting to know a child's interests and experiences, as well as his/her family are vitally important so when parents call or visit, we learn more about your child and about your expectations for his/her education. Many times, students drop in to say hello but there might be some instances where a school counselor may be especially beneficial. This might be when your child is struggling at home or with peers, showing signs of mood variations, stuggling with academics or is concerned about a pending transition.

"Research confirms that, regardless of the economic, racial, or cultural background of the family, when parents are partners in their children's education, the results are improved student achievement, better school attendance, reduced dropout rates, and decreaded deliquency." - Richard W. Riley, former Secretary of Education of the United States
