Information about Mr. McGee
The 2004-2005 school year was my first at Kirkwood but I am very familiar with my surroundings. I have been coaching track and football for KHS since 2000. As for my teaching career, I started out teaching chemistry at Oakville Sr. High School in the Mehlville School District from 2001 to 2004. There I was involved with many activities from Technology Coordinator to chairing the Grant Writing Committee. I was also nominated for Teacher of the Year and was awarded National Recognition in Who’s Who Among America’s Teachers.
I taught chemistry for three years. Those that had me in class learned that chemistry is just "Chem-is-try." I focus my daily classroom expectations around effort. Science is a subject of trial, error, and trial again. The ability to never give up on a problem and to stick to it no matter what is something I am very passionate about, and something you will hear from me all year long.
I attended Webster University for five years where I double-majored in biology and educational unified science. I spent all five great years involved with many campus activities focusing on student leadership. I am currently on the Alumni Associate Board of Directors and remain involved in campus activities. I hope to spread leadership skills to all my students.
6th Grade Science
I am excited about teaching 6th grade science!Science is a class that will involve many hands-on lab opportunities for investigating the world around us. It is IMPERATIVE that students practice rules of good safety and follow and read directions carefully. Students will learn the scientific skills of measuring, hypothesizing, writing procedures, testing, analyzing, and making conclusions. All these strategies will be completed while looking at units of astronomy, electricity, light, and chemistry. Each unit we cover will have a summative project or activity in which students will apply the knowledge they have acquired.
Here are some of the keys to success in science class:
• Homework is due at the beginning of the class.
• Assigned work is always due the following class period unless stated otherwise.
• Appropriate behavior is expected at all times in the classroom.
• If you are absent, it is each student's responsibility to find out from another student, the teacher, the class calendar, or the homework hotline what his or her assignments are, to acquire any notes, and to make up any missed work. IT IS A PET PEEVE OF MINE TO ENTER CLASS AND SIMPLY STATE THE PHRASE: “Well, I was absent.” Responsibility is key.
• If an absence is planned for any reason getting assigned work AHEAD of time is encouraged. Always be proactive as opposed to reactive.
• Remember the three Cs: call, click, or come by.
• Organization is the key to success, and any assistance in that department is readily available. Having materials every day is the key to organization.
A Normal day
Class will begin each day with a Q.O.D. (question of the day), a quote, a homework assignment, and an outline of the day’s activities. These will be copied and completed by the students in a designated area. Students can expect to take notes in class, complete tests and quizzes, and usually will have homework 2-3 times per week. Students and parents will read and sign team expectations at the beginning of the year.Remember:
Effort + Respect = Success
The Three D’s to Success:
Desire, Discipline, Dedication
