KIRKWOOD ORCHESTRA PARENT ASSOCIATION (KOPA) SUPPORTS MUSIC EDUCATION IN THE DISTRICT
Dear Kirkwood Orchestra Parents,
Welcome to the 2011-12 school year and to the amazing orchestra program.
Our family first met Mr. Patrick Jackson in May, 2003 during a school tour when our daughter Anna, a violinist, was trying to make her high school choice. Based on a variety of factors, including the strong reputation of the orchestra program, we decided to send Anna to KHS. As Webster Groves residents at the time (yes, that is true!), we decided that KHS appeared to be the best choice for Anna, even if we had to pay non-resident tuition. We were right! After one year, we relocated to Kirkwood and Anna’s two brothers joined her in Kirkwood schools. There were many highlights for Anna during high school but there is no doubt that her experience in the orchestra program is at the top of the list!
Our son, Gregory, a cellist and junior at KHS, each and every year shares with us how much he loves orchestra! Being a somewhat quiet and reserved guy, we take notice of his enthusiasm! These first-hand experiences of our children plus the goose-bumps which appear at each KSD orchestra concert (including of course Carnegie Hall in 2010) prove to us that this is a very unique opportunity for the string playing students in Kirkwood. Under Mr. Jackson’s leadership, there is an expectation for excellence, yet also a deep concern for the students and their positive development not only as musicians but also as mature, responsible individuals.
I am proud to be a part of this program as the president of KOPA for the 2011-2012. Looking forward to another great year! Thanks for your support of KOPA and please feel free to contact me if you have any concerns or questions.
