Lead Testing

Lead Test Requirements
The State Health Department has determined that Kirkwood is a no longer considered a "high risk" area for lead poisoning. Therefore, the children attending KECC will not be required to have a yearly lead test as in the past. The requirement may change from year to year and we may require this testing in the future for KECC attendance.
Please keep in mind the importance of having young children's lead levels monitored as suggested by your pediatrician. There are many means of exposure for lead to enter a child's body besides eating paint chips. These include water in lead pipes, toys, dirt, home renovation dust, imported miniblinds, candles, and sidewalk chalk. Elevated blood lead levels can lead to lower IQ scores, learning disabilities, slower development, and more attention and behavior problems.
