World Hunger
Step #1: Access the World Hunger: The Face of Starvation Webquest and read the introduction.
Step #2: Access the task page and answer these 10 questions:
Note: You can copy and paste these ?'s into a pages document & type your answers or you can write your answers on the handout provided.
1. Define true hunger.
2. There are three basic types malnutrition. What are they and how are they defined?
3. Malnutrition is rising in which nine nations?
4. What are the causes of hunger?
4. List some diseases of malnutrition, indicate which nutrients cause them, and what signs and symptoms indicate the disease.
5. Describe the three stages of starvation.
6. List one country in each of the five populated continents that is at risk of starvation.
7. What is gleaning? Where does the food come from and go to?
8. What is desertification and what causes it?
9. Aid to the developing world comes from three main sources. What are they?
10. What are LIFDC's and why are people going hungry there?:
If time permits here are some additional questions to address during the summit:
1. What continents have the largest number of undernourished people?
2. What is the position of the Rome Declaration on world food security & what are some of their commitments?
3. Sign a petition to end hunger.
Step #3: Our class will be researching hunger and in the United States. Please see your teacher to find out which country you will be investigating. Miss G's class will be looking at the United States.

Step #4: Your group needs to create a poster or an electronic powerpoint presentation(powerpoint, keynote, or Activ-Inspire) that contains:
a) The name of your country
b) 10 factual pieces of information that you learned about hunger and poverty in your country
c) A bar, double bar, line, double line, or other appropriate graph that compares
c) A visual representation (diagram, illustration, or picture)
d) A written reflection or summary of findings that includes your group's answer to the overall question, "How can I make a difference in helping to end hunger?"
Step #5: You will need to complete an Independent Entry in your Science Journal reflecting on the process of today's World Hunger Exploration and what you learned.
Step #6: Read the conclusion.
