Where am I?

Pioneering the Advancement of Science Campaign

Kirkwood High School (KHS) – The Earl and Myrtle Walker Science Center

Here are some key facts about the Science Facility at KHS:

  • A fully-accessible, 51,000 sq. ft. two-story structure, it is the largest addition to any Kirkwood school building in the District’s history
  • Located at the northeast corner of Kirkwood High School
  • Connects the High School’s northeast building, industrial technology building, and east building.
  • Features 15 combined science classrooms/laboratories, five each for chemistry, biology and physics.
  • Each classroom/laboratory averages approximately 1,500 sq. ft.  All rooms are designed to reflect current research and best practices in science education.

Proposition I, approved by voters in 2005, provided funding for a long list of District-wide improvements, including a new Science Building at Kirkwood High School.

The Kirkwood School District Foundation, in partnership with the District, created a special initiative campaign called “Pioneering the Advancement of Science.”  The campaign raised funds to furnish this new science building with new technology and state-of-the-art equipment.  Mission accomplished.

Pioneering the Advancement of Science Continues….

In the fall of 2010, the voters approved Proposition 1.  Along with a number of other needed additions to our district buildings, upgrading our science facilities at Nipher Middle School and at North Kirkwood Middle School were approved.  The Kirkwood School District Foundation will continue to provide support for the District and these facilities as well.
