for Kirkwood School District Student(s) or Staff:
Woodard Family Arts Grant (pdf, 300.61KB) - In 1999, the Woodard children established a grant to honor their parents Earl and Nancy Woodard. The Woodards have been long time supporters of the Kirkwood School District and have a special fondness for the arts. This scholarship is offered to a student or staff member in the Kirkwood School District to pursue educational opportunities in the arts or drama.

Glunt Family Award (pdf, 316.4KB) - In 2002, family and friends established the Glunt Family Award in
tribute to Gordon and Virginia Glunt. The Glunts are active supporters of Kirkwood Schools and all of their children and some of their grandchildren attended Kirkwood Schools. Their son, John, serves on the Kirkwood School District Board. This grant is to be awarded to KHS student(s) for an opportunity to broaden, deepen or enhance their education experience. In addition to academic programs, opportunities may include music, art, journalism, leadership, government, foreign travel or sports. Selection is based on the merit of the program and potential benefit to the student.

Art Major Required:
Katie Stream Memorial Scholarship - This fund was established in 1996 in memory and honor of Katie Stream, a KHS graduate. The Outstanding Art Student scholarship will be awarded in Stream’s name. Student will be evaluated on their ability to draw and their creative/expressive skills. They will present their present portfolio of work in media such as painting, 3-D work and printmaking to the art department committee. There is no application for this award, students are qualified by the art department committee.
Russell and Ruth Kraus Memorial Art Scholarship - This newly established fund (2011) was created in memory of Russell and Ruth Kraus, two long-time Kirkwood residents. An exceedingly accomplished artist in multiple mediums, Russell's experience included work with sculpture, jewelry design, stained glass and illustration. Russell's wife, Ruth, was among the first women to graduate from the Washington University School of Law. Student will present a portfolio of their work to the art department committee. Financial need will be taken under consideration. There is no application for this award, students are qualified by the art department committee.
Music Major Required:
Russell and Ruth Kraus Memorial Music Scholarship - This newly established fund (2011) was created in memory of Russell and Ruth Kraus, two long-time Kirkwood residents. This scholarship more specifically commemorates Russell Kraus's accomplishments as a concert violinist. It was established to assist a young, aspiring musician who excels in the performance of one or more musical instruments. The chosen instrumental music student should plan to major in music performance or music education. This scholarship can go to either a wind, string or percussion instrumentalist. There is no application for this award. Students are qualified by the instrumental music department committee. Financial need will be taken under consideration.
Education Major Required:
Joan Dowell Memorial Scholarship (pdf, 416.31KB)- This fund was established in 2003 in memory of Joan Dowell. An active participant in the Kirkwood Community, Joan served as the President of Westchester P.T.O.; was a member of the Kirkwood School District Board of Education and was a founding member of the Kirkwood School District Foundation. Student needs at least a 3.0 G.P.A., and community service & other awards. Financial need will be taken under consideration.
Dolly Jander Grant (pdf, 416.31KB) - This fund originated in 2002 to honor Dolly Jander, an elementary teacher in the Kirkwood schools for 29 years. Student should have a good academic record, education major and be attending a state school. Financial need will be taken under consideration.
Franklin and Tresa McCallie Award (pdf, 416.31KB)- Friends and Family established this award in honor of Franklin McCallie, former principal of Kirkwood High School and Tresa McCallie, former Parents as Teachers Coordinator. Both Franklin and Tresa served the District for over two decades. African American student majoring in education with an average G.P.A. Financial need will be taken under consideration.
Math, Science Law or Related Field Required:
The Salivar Family Grant (pdf, 464.3KB)- This scholarship was established in 2011 by Dave (KHS '67) and Gary (KHS '70) Salivar. Only Kirkwood High School college bound seniors are eligible to apply for this scholarship. Student must be pursuing a career in math, science, law or related field and be in the top 30% of the graduating class to apply.
No Specific Major Required:
Barbara Holley Memorial Scholarship (pdf, 357.18KB) - In 2008 the Holley brothers and their families established this scholarship to honor their mother, Barbara Holley. Barbara worked for many years as a volunteer at Kirkwood High School with Special School District students and teachers. She also worked with Club 44 in its formative years. This scholarship is offered to an African-American or special needs student (SSD) in the top 33% of the class. Financial need will be taken under consideration.
Beth Brown Memorial Scholarship (pdf, 357.18KB)- This fund was established in 1999 in memory and in honor of Beth Brown, KHS graduate. Student must be active on the Peer Helper committee, have a good academic record and cannot be receiving the Principal’s Award or the Duchek Award.
David Koeneker Memorial Award (pdf, 357.18KB)- This award was established in 2002 in memory and honor of David Koeneker, a KHS student. Student must be an active volunteer for a school, charitable, civic or community organization, demonstrate strong academic effort and be an overall caring person. Financial need will be taken under consideration.
Denver Miller Memorial Scholarship (pdf, 357.18KB) - This scholarship was established in 1988 by Steve Miller to honor his father, Denver Miller. Miller taught algebra/math and coached varsity basketball and varsity baseball at KHS for 43 years. Student must be a top math scholar and student be a top athlete, preferably on the basketball or baseball team.
Evan Dalgaard Memorial Scholarship for Young Leaders (pdf, 357.18KB)- This scholarship was established in 2008 in memory of Evan Dalgaard, a 2007 graduate of Kirkwood High School. Evan was a quiet leader, a fierce friend and gifted with an unquenchable spirit. He was devoted to family, church, school and to youth service at the community, state and national levels. This scholarship is offered to a student exhibiting a strong commitment to youth service and leadership, as well as advocates of those less fortunate, highly involved in extra-curricular activities and those who strive to lead with humility and character.
