Investing in Kids and Community: Communicating Progress
On behalf of the children, thank you to our supportive community. With nearly 59 percent of voters approving Proposition 1, the Kirkwood School District community has clearly demonstrated its commitment to children and education.
We also extend a special thank you to the five citizens who volunteered their time and energy to lead the campaign committee: Ben Clark, Kevin Herweck, Heidi Meckes, Ed Travis, and Doug Woodruff. Their efforts—combined with the efforts of the members of the campaign committee-at-large, the parent representatives for each school, and the many other students, staff, parents and residents who helped in other ways—exemplify the strength and positive spirit of a remarkable school community.
Because of the solid support of our residents and school community, every child in the Kirkwood School District will be able to attend kindergarten in his or her home school, and every middle school student will have the opportunity to learn science in a classroom designed in accordance with the best and most current standards in science education today. Other improvements include adding regulation size gyms and cafeterias, relocating school offices to improve student safety and re-routing traffic flow at several schools.
The district has begun the work of setting timelines to implement the improvements outlined in Proposition 1. Although the election results for Proposition 2 were disappointing, the district respects the opinions of all who voted. The district will seek community feedback on finding solutions to the challenges that remain for our physical education and athletic facilities.
With your continued support, we will work together to provide our children with the exceptional learning opportunities they deserve and that the community expects.
Sincerely,
