Our Mission

Where am I?

The mission of the Kirkwood School District, a leader in individualized education, is to instill in each student a passion for learning and the academic and social skills to excel in a global society. This will be accomplished by a system that meets the unique needs of each student through high expectations, innovative instructional strategies, and partnerships with parents and community, in an atmosphere that ensures a sense of belonging.

We Believe That:

• The family has the greatest influence on a child’s early development.

• Access to multiple opportunities is essential to successful development of every

individual.

• People of personal integrity and character are vital to building and maintaining healthy

community.

• Everyone has strengths that can contribute to the community.

• Our community is most effective when all of its members use their strengths for the

common good.

• Motivation is essential to maximize your potential.

• A community is most vibrant when each member shows respect and understands his/her

interdependence on those who are different from themselves.

• Solutions can best be found through courageous conversations and mutual respect.

• All people are responsible for their own actions.

• Improving our environment is essential for the quality of life for future generations.

• Everyone can positively make a difference in someone’s life today.

• In a healthy community, all people have a sense of responsibility for each other.

• The quality of a community is measured by how it treats its children.

• Knowledge of the past, from multiple perspectives, is essential to progress in the future.

• A safe environment is essential for social and emotional well being.
