KSD Middle School Students Develop Product Now in Local Schnucks Stores

A group of Kirkwood School District (KSD) middle school students have developed a food safety tips bag that can now be found in the produce section at the Schnucks in Des Peres, MO. The group, also known as the Tie Dye Turtles Robotics team, is coached by parent Debbie Pitz and includes North Kirkwood Middle School (NKMS) eighth graders Jenna Heaton, Katie Pitz and Jessie Sanford, NKMS sixth graders Meagan Biesiadecki and Emily Pitz and Nipher Middle School sixth grader Caroline Bartels. The team is sponsored by the Girl Scouts of Eastern Missouri troops 3179 and 1386.

KHS Teacher is Awarded Horace Mann Friend of Education Award

The Missouri National Education Association (MNEA) has awarded Kirkwood High School chemistry teacher Robert Becker the 2012 Horace Mann Friend of Education Award. The award is given to teachers who have exhibited outstanding performance as an educator and is a model for other educators to follow. As a recipient of the award, Becker will be nominated for the NEA Foundation Award for Teaching Excellence. Becker will be recognized during the MNEA Spring Assembly at the Lake of the Ozarks.

KHS Symphonic Orchestra to perform at State Music Convention

The Kirkwood High School Symphonic Orchestra will perform at the 2012 Missouri State Music Convention on Friday, Jan. 27, at
Tan-Tar-A Resort, Lake of the Ozarks. The event is sponsored by the Missouri Music Educations Association. The performance begins at 12:30 p.m.
Music educators from the elementary through college levels will be in attendance at the event. The 2012 performance marks the fourth time the KHS orchestra has been invited to perform at the convention, an unparalleled accomplishment for a high school orchestra.
