North Glendale Students Turn Class Project into Class Fundraiser
May 18, 2012
Marilyn Woodard’s third grade classroom at North Glendale turned a class project into a unique fundraising opportunity.
In the fall, Woodard’s class did a math project where students collected a thousand things. At that time, the class decided to collect 1,000 dimes to give to Mike Bales. Mike is a former Kirkwood police officer and Safety Director for Kirkwood Schools. He is battling a long-term illness and needs to maintain his level of care. After the class reached its goal of 1,000 dimes, they decided to keep collecting. The collecting continued until early May and an additional 1,500 dimes rolled in. By the end of the fundraising, the class collected over 2,500 dimes. On Thursday May 15, the class welcomed Mike and his wife Teri to their classroom and presented the Bales with $250.
